Began skating and playing ice hockey at the age of three. His hockey hero growing up was Jiří Kučera.
Offensively gifted two-way forward with a good shot, smooth skating and good understanding of the game. Slick playmaker and a fairly good finisher as well. Fairly strong in his lower body.
World champion 2010 and 2024. Regarded for a while as the best player not in the NHL.
Made his NHL-debut with Calgary Flames in January 2013. Was selected to play in the 2013 World Championships, but suffered a knee sprain in the last NHL regular season game. Last minute replacement for David Krejčí at the 2016 World Cup.
Best Czech scorer in a WC since Czechoslovkia split (1993), gaining 17 points in 2022. No Czech player aged over 35 had scored 10 or more points since... Josef Maleček in 1939.
World champion 2010 et 2024. Czech champion at 22 with Slavia and at 40 with Pardubice. KHL champion 2015. Extraliga MVP in 2016 and 2026 and Swiss National League MVP 2022 and 2023. Named on World Championship all-star team 2022 and 2024. First IIHF Male Player of the Year 2024.

Apprend à patiner dès ses trois ans et se retrouve illico avec une crosse dans les mains. Son idole d'enfance se nommait Jiří Kučera.
Attaquant talentueux mais aussi précieux défensivement, doté d'un bon tir, d'un patinage élégant et d'une lecture perspicace du jeu, tête levée. Passeur adroit, buteur sans déchet, solide du bas du corps. Il a besoin de beaucoup de temps de jeu pour briller.
Champion du monde 2010 et 2024. Considéré un temps comme le meilleur hockeyeur en dehors de la NHL.
Il fit tout de même une demi-saison en NHL avec les Flames, commencée en janvier 2013 avec 17 points marqués (9+8) en 39 parties, mais elle lui valut un forfait aux Mondiaux suivants, puisqu'il se fit une entorse du genou lors du tout dernier match de la saison.
Meilleur marqueur de la Tchéquie dans un championnat du monde depuis la partition de la Tchécoslovaquie (1993), avec 17 points en 2022. Aucun Tchèque de plus de 35 ans n'avait dépassé les 10 points avant lui depuis... Josef Maleček en 1939.
Champion du monde 2010 et 2024. Champion tchèque à 22 ans avec le Slavia et à 40 ans avec Pardubice. Champion KHL 2015. Joueur de l'année de l'Extraliga en 2016 et 2026, et du championnat suisse en 2022 et 2023. Nommé sur l'équipe-type des championnats du monde 2022 et 2024. Premier hockeyeur de l'année de l'IIHF en 2024.
