Son of Canadian-Brit Mike O’Connor. He first played hockey in Durham as a kid when his father played there.
Never pushed into hockey by his father who let him decide for himself what he wanted.
Creative defenseman with a good shot from the point.
Played more than three seasons in Kazakhstan which he thought was the most valuable time for him as a player in terms of improving as a player. Also played in France, Sweden and Romania.
At the 2015 Division 1 B World Championships he had a memorable penalty shot against Korea. The penalty shot came in the third period with the score tied at 2-2. O’Connor skated in on the goalie, turned his back, lifted the puck between his legs and into the top corner.
Three assists in the game that kept Great Britain from being relegated at the 2019 World Championships (4-3 OT vs France).

Il n'a jamais été poussé vers le hockey par son père, résolu à lui laisser faire ce qu'il voulait.
Défenseur créatif possédant un très bon lancer de la ligne bleue.
Il a joué plus de trois saisons au Kazakhstan, une période qu'il considère comme la plus propice au développement de son jeu. Il a également joué en France, en Suède (quelques semaines à Leksand en début de saison 2018/19) et en Roumanie.
Lors des Mondiaux de Division 1 B de 2015, il a inscrit un mémorable pénalty face à la Corée alors que le score était de 2-2. O’Connor a patiné vers le gardien, s'est retourné et a glissé le palet entre ses jambes vers la lucarne.
Il a signé trois assistances dans le match de la survie de la Grande-Bretagne lors des Mondiaux 2019 (4-3 en prolongation contre la France).
